My wife is going to let me buy a larg LCD monitor for my pc. (Tapper jumps up and down an spins shouts YES, YES. Jumps up and down and spins some more then falls on butt...spinning makes me dizzy)

What do i look for for the best quality in displaying graphics clearly? what resolution and/or DPI would you recommend?

Thanks

If your going to use Wblinds keep in mind you need to stick with the 96dpi fonts. Once you get beyond 1600x1200 they get to hhhaaarrrrdddddd to see, specially for those of us beyond 40. I have a laptop that has 17" 1920x1200. I dock it at work into a 21" 1600x1200 LCD (LOVE IT). I can see easily on the office monitor, but the laptop screen makes me squint.

Thanks Lantec. I'm looking at a 24" or possibly a 26". Beyond 40? Can't remember back that far.

I have a Samsung 19" Flat Panel SyncMaster930B LCD. And I absolutely LOVE it. It looks awesome. 1280 x 1024 Res is what I run, first because that's the limit on the monitor, and second because, like Lantec said, you need a magnifying glass to read fonts on anything higher. But believe me, it's perfect... And it was around $349 if I recall correctly...

just teasing ya Tapper, been there, done that. I would sit real close to the monitor when she walked into the room, went from a 15"lcd to a 19"lcd. Ditto to RPGFX awesome monitor!

I know you were teasing. BUT, if i get a big monitor I know my honey-do list will triple in a matter of seconds.

Maybe it's not such an issue any more but check the pixel failure warranty the manufacturer offers i.e which failures & how many will get you a new screen.

There used to be some 'gotcha' warranty clauses out there...

I have/use Samsung SyncMaster 213T 21" LCD...I use the resident resolution of 1600 x 1200, it's wonderful! Images and text are crystal clear, and colors are vibrant. It's hard to go to work and use the 17" cheap-o monitors there.

i have a 19" Sceptre lcd - christmas gift last year so i had no choice in brand - but have a hard time now sitting at the other computers in our house (they are all old CRT monitors - yuck and not as big) my resolution sits at 1280 x 1024 and works perfect for me - i don't even feel like it is cluttered at all. (mine isn't widescreen either)

Samsung is certainly one the best. If you get a dead pixel, they'll replace it (they don't worry about it much because it's a rarity on one of their's). Size is whatever you want, but you need to pay attention to 'Native' resolution and if you're a gamer watch the 'ms' response times. A 4<>12 for gamers and 12<>25 for eye enjoyment.
